At HTHNC, the freshmen and sophomores have one a day where we don't come to school but instead shadow someone in the career field we may be interested in. I personally feel that one day I would like to be a vet tech, so I shadowed a family friend who is a dog groomer. She had coworkers who has years of veterinary experience. They told me of some of the fun times that they had working in that career, as well as some of the horrors. I had so much fun and I learned so much from my friend and her coworkers. Everyone was so kind and I'm so happy and thankful I was able to shadow her.

For me personally, career day went extraordinarily well for me. I wasn't nervous at all because I've worked and helped my grandmother at this preschool multiple summers for about two weeks each visit. So, I already knew most of her coworkers and was used to seeing the way different children interact with one another.
Basicay, my whole day there consisted of setting up for the art show. The art show was from 5:30-7pm and there was also a play. I showed up by 11am with my grandmother to begin clean up and set up. I did get to see the children interact with each other for a bit before they left and it was sweet. They were very kind to each other. I wanted to shadow my grandmother because I wanted to see how the children treated one another. I'm interested in the fed of psychology and the idea of learning how people behave and why. Childhood experiences are a large part of this. That's why I was so interested in attending for the day. It was nice to see how involved these kids were in creating the displays for the art show. It was crazy to see the things they created. It was adorable. I think the best part of the day was seeing how the room came together and seeing the pure shock on the parents faces as their children dragged them all over the room to show them what they've created. I honestly didn't have a least favorite part of the day. I loved every second of it. My grandmother was an amazing mentor. She and I actually grew a lot closer on that day. I learned how much the two of us are alike. It was crazy. I especially learned a lot about her from the interview. I always saw my grandmother as a very confident woman be I learned that she's actually a very shy and keep to her self kind of person. She amazes me more and more each time I have a conversation with her. I loved spending every second I could with her. I wouldn't have changed a single thing about that day if I had the chance. I loved it all so much. |
