Project OverviewIn this project, we were given the option of working in a pair or working alone. We were given a list of different mental illnesses and disorders and were told to give our top three choices. Once we had picked our top three, we were then to give an explanation of why we wanted that disorder and why we deserved it. I decided to work with a classmate on this project. We were both assigned Social Anxiety Disorder. Together, we were to write a case report that included a summary of the disorder, a list of symptoms, the history, a list of medications/treatments, changes in treatments, and statistics. Exhibition ReflectionExhibition was a relaxed experience. I personally enjoyed it. We basically just had to wait for someone to come up to us with our case file. Most people who found their way to mine and my partner's booth weren't too interested in learning too much more about our disorder. If they were, they weren't interested in partaking in the activity. Some people were but most were not. The activity we had planed was a type of art therapy that may be relevant or helpful to people dealing with social anxiety. Social anxiety isn't exactly something that can be cured with medication. You can take antidepressants but those only cure the physical effects. The medication would have to somehow change neurological pathways in the brain and that is not possible in today's medicine. The only way to really cure it is to go to some sort of therapy to seek professional help and find ways of healing on your own. Along with that, if you go to therapy, one must have an open mind and be willing to let someone help them. If they don't go in with the right mindset, no progress is going to be made.
