Project Description |
Calculations |
For this project, we were to given the option of working on our own or working in groups of two-three. Our objective was to select an object and find its volume. However, the object should provide us with some sort of a challenge for us. For example, I worked in a group of three and my group chose to find the volume of the One World Trade Centre in New York. However, we did not count the five undergroud levels. We thought it would be an interesting building to find the volume of and because it would have been too easy to find the volume of the original Twin Towers.

Concrete Base Calculations:
Height: 186 ft Length: 200 ft Width: 200 ft Volume: 7,440,000 ft^3 Height from the top of base to the top of the building: Height of total building: 1776 ft Height of total building subtracted by concrete base height: 1590 ft All Side lengths of top square: 140 ft Volume of triangles on sides: 200ft-140ft=60/2=30ft 140/2=70 70x30x1590/3=1113000 x 4 = 4452000 When Changed to Rectangular Prism Volume is: 200x200x1590=63600000 Subtract the Triangles: 63600000 - 4452000=59148000 Final Volume of One World Trade Center: 59148000 +7440000 = 665800ft^3 |
