The Water’s Change
Cool gentle water flows over the stones They lay still, observing what may pass by Fish of vibrant colors, strong to their bones They swim but to the stones, they seem to fly Forged from fire, the crawfish shells burn bright With determination, they crawl slowly Constantly advancing all through the night With every move they make more cautiously Years of no change, something new flows this way Liquid, black as night, makes the water thick It has seeped down to where the crawfish lay Crawling slower than before, they grow sick The water turns black as it flows downstream Turning it into a sick kind of dream |
Before this project, I was only aware of Shakespearean sonnets after having to write my first one in seventh grade. That sonnet never really turned out well so I'm quite surprised with my final result of this sonnet.
The themes of nature I included were the fish, their vibrant colors, the feel of the water, the perspective of the stones in the water, and crawfish and the way their behavior. I basically talked about the water before pollution entered the water and what happened after. In the end, I'm thrilled with my final result. I was missing the requirement of at least one metaphore however, I was unsure of how to include one without messing with the flow of my sonnet. I was also happy with what I already had. |
